Finance is one tough sector, especially when you’re studying and have no idea whether or not it would pay off. You’re hounded by friends and siblings who want you to solve their accounting problems and your days are spent pouring through humongous books which you may or may not have memorized (may have, most probably). So we have compiled a list of 6 things you go through when you are a hardcore finance geek.
1. You are up every night balancing those accounts you don’t even own
You stay up till the wee hours of the night wondering when someone else would lie awake balancing your bank accounts while you’d be off sleeping or watching the latest movie in the cinema which you finally wouldn’t have to download through torrents. And pulling an all-nighter makes mornings all more horrible to you.
2. Your dreams revolve around excel sheets, ledger notes and petty cash
You constantly dream of spending the day without worrying about how would you solve the new worksheet your professor gave you and your nightmares usually consist of imbalanced balance sheets and that one petty cash account you forgot to reimburse.
3. You have your monthly budget organized to the very last cent
Not that you always follow that budget (Dang, these impulse online shopping sprees) but you really do make a monthly budget which, according to you, will make you the Donald Trump of the next generation (strictly wealth wise, obviously). But even though you might find yourself being broke by the end of the month, you still have your savings account on point.
4. You know all the complicated workings of an Excel worksheet
Well you know you’re the spreadsheet badass when you have all the formulas and intricate workings of Ms Excel down on your fingertips. Sure, your friends give you the weirdest looks when you talk in that Excel jargon of yours, but that doesn’t matter, you deserve to show off your superior skills to us ordinary beings!
5. Your phone and Facebook profile is full of unread texts and unseen notifications
Your phone LED is always blinking to remind you of those remaining few friends who still want to hang out with you, despite your busy schedule and the fact that you have been ignoring them since forever as you are so busy. You find it so hard to chip in to those Whatsapp group conversations where people are discussing those images they uploaded on Facebook, and because keeping track is so hard, you just let them go. Who needs friends when you’ve got your ACCA degree, right?
6. You find it very hard to talk about “that new series” your friends are watching
Wait, Sherlock has a new season coming? And what’s this new series called Jessica Jones? Who is that? And what do you mean Derek Shepherd is dead (sob)? These are the questions you find yourself asking when you absolutely have no time to catch up to the TV shows your friends are watching.
But at the end of the day, you know you work hard and you will get your worth in the future!
And you know that all this hard work is definitely going to pay off someday.
